Filmmaker Carl Reiner could probably do the Directors Guild of America Awards hosting job in his sleep. On Saturday, January 26th the Emmy Award-winner returned to MC the annual event for the 21st time. Either he's a glutton for punishment or Reiner just loves being the guy in the spotlight. Can you imagine the Oscars keeping the same host for that period of time? It'll never happen as Oscar duty is so high-pressured it takes nearly a year for most hosts to fully recover from the experience.

Historically, the winner of the DGA Award goes on to collect the Best Director Oscar. Only six times since the DGA began handing out Directorial Achievement awards in 1948 has the winner of its top honor not gone on to win the Academy Award. Odds are the brother filmmaking team of Ethan and Joel Coen (No Country for Old Men) will be adding 13 1/2" tall, 8 1/2 pound statuettes to their trophy collections. The Coen Brothers beat out fellow Oscar nominees Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood), Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton), and Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), as well as Sean Penn (Into the Wild), to take home the DGA Award for the best feature film directing of 2007.
