He's short, he's kind of handsome, and he's making an appearance in New York to greet all his fans. That's right,
Oscar - or actually 53 Oscars - will be on display in New York beginning February 15th.
Each Oscar statuette is made of britannia and plated in copper, nickel, silver and 24-karat gold and weighs a mere 8 1/2 pounds. 50 brand spanking new statuettes (officially known as the Academy Award of Merit) will be on display at
Times Square Studios in New York. In addition, Gary Cooper's Best Actor Oscar for
Sergeant York will be present alongside Thelma Schoonmaker's Oscar for editing
The Departed.
For those who've always wanted to get their hands on Oscar, the Academy has made available one statuette just for people to hold. And be honest now, who hasn't imagined standing on stage, Oscar in hand, thanking all the little people?
The "Meet the Oscars, New York" exhibit is free to the public and runs February 15 - 23.
