Edith Piaf Lives On
Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker (Last King of Scotland) looked handsome and proud to be announcing the winner of the Best Actress Oscar: Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose. Cotillard followed up her recent win at the BAFTAs with an Academy Award. This is the first nomination for Cotillard who pulled off an absolutely stunning, career-defining performance in La Vie en Rose (see it even if you don't like foreign language films just for her performance). She thanked a couple people, said she was speechless, and then thanked life, love, and said it's true there are angels in this city. Cotillard's win is sort of an upset as Julie Christie had been favored in this category up until Cotillard's BAFTA win.
