'Once' in a Lifetime
John Travolta - not in drag - danced his way onto the stage and almost slipped in the same spot as Colin Farrell had earlier in the evening while introducing the Oscar-nominated song from Once. Farrell said right after he almost fell that someone needed to clean it up, but I guess no one got the message. Anyway, Travolta recovered from his near fall and handed the Oscar to Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from Once! Okay, this was my personal favorite. I love, love, love this movie. It's beautiful and touching and true - and it's out on DVD so run to the store tomorrow and check it out. Hansard said, "Thanks from me and Marketa. This is amazing. What are we doing here? This is mad!" You can tell these two really appreciated the honor and were shocked to find themselves on the stage. He thanked everyone for taking the film seriously and urged everyone to make art.
After the commercial Stewart brought Irglova onto the stage because she didn't get a chance to say thanks. Irglova's acceptance speech deserved to be heard. "Hope connects us all, no matter how different we are." Well said, Marketa.
