In a nutshell: Benjamin Button is born with all the ailments of an old man, and his body progresses to grow younger as he ages, which makes for a difficult love affair with Daisy, who ages normally.
Why it could win: Benjamin Button is the sort of sweeping epic that Oscar loves; it’s nearly three hours long and follows the entire life journey of one extraordinary man…very similar to the 1994 Best Picture winner, Forrest Gump. And starring Hollywood A-listers like Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton doesn’t hurt, either.
Why it could lose: In all honesty, there are better movies vying for the same award. While an enjoyable movie, it doesn’t stick with you the way The Reader and audience favorite Slumdog Millionaire do. It also has to compete with true story-based Frost/Nixon and Milk, and Oscar loves its biopics, too…
