"The Simpsons" Guest Stars

by Nancy Basile

Name that voice

Through the years, "The Simpsons" has recruited lots of celebrities as guest stars. Because the show is so good week after week, it's not surprising to know that many of these guest stars are Academy Award winners.

Both Dustin Hoffman and Jack Lemmon are Best Actor winners who have appeared in Springfield. Dustin Hoffman appeared in the second season as dreamy Mr. Bergstrom in "Lisa's Substitute." Jack Lemmon portrayed Frank Ormond, a pretzel franchise founder in "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson."

As for Best Actresses, there have been plenty in Springfield. Helen Hunt was Moe's gal Renee in "Dumbbell Indemnity." In "Krusty Gets Cancelled," one of the most anticipated and hyped "Simpsons" episodes of all time, Elizabeth Taylor spoke Maggie's first word, "Daddy." And Oscar darling Meryl Streep visited Springfield as Jessica, the Reverend Lovejoy's mischievous daughter, in "Bart's Girlfriend (a.k.a. Lovejoy's Little Devil)."

Many more Academy Award winners and nominees have appeared on "The Simpsons." Read the complete guest star list at "The Simpsons" Archive.
